Hi, I’m Cait! I am the founder and lead decorator here at Nest Out West, which is an interior styling and photography firm based in Denver, Colorado, serving clients nationwide. My husband Jason and I started this company—which is now a six-person small business operation—because we wanted to help others who found themselves in the same predicament we were in back in September 2016, which was when we closed on our first home. The house was a builder-grade box with no color, texture, or warmth. It didn’t feel lived-in, nor did it feel loved for that matter. That needed to change.
When we moved into that house, we hated how much it lacked “character.” Growing up in the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago and then moving downtown after college, we were spoiled with the character and beauty found in old Victorians and Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired homes (fun fact: He’s from the Chicago suburbs). Since the day we moved in to our first home, my husband and I have been slowly decorating and renovating both it and our current house. Simply put, we were not okay with just throwing our furniture in and calling it “home.” Rather, we wanted each of our dwelling places to feel intentional, warm, and unique to us.
Here is where the idea for a business came into the picture: Colorado is seeing a boom in new-construction homes, with neighborhoods popping up all over the place it seems. Since we’ve begun this process, friends, family, and community members who have seen our home have asked us to help them turn their blank white boxes of homes into family dwellings that are not only functional, but also stylish, warm, and full of character.
Over the past three years, I’ve worked with 27 clients who trusted me to provide them with new decorating concepts and step-by-step shopping and DIY plans to bring these concepts to fruition for spaces in their homes. I started this business while I was teaching seventh-grade English full time and going through IVF treatments. Upon learning our IVF journey was a success and that we’d soon have a son, I made a major life change and left the teaching profession to pursue building my business full-time. My background in Public Relations was incredibly helpful when it came to creating and promoting my own brand, and my love for education came into play via Instagram, where I shared tips and tricks for decorating your home on any budget.
Today, my Instagram account functions in three ways: 1) It’s where I engage with other like-minded people, such as designers, creatives, and homeowners who are on a similar journey; 2) It’s where I market my service by using our home as a template where my husband and I can show off our style (and his amazing carpentry skills!); and 3) It’s where other brands trust me to promote their products by staging them in my home and informing my followers on how to achieve the same look.
Whether you are a homeowner looking for a refresh, or you’re a brand looking for a little social media promotion, I look forward to hearing from you. My talented team and I welcome new opportunities at any time! Please submit an inquiry through our contact form if you wish to work with us.
